Supporting Their Journey
Resources and guidance for men/partners/spouses supporting other humans through perimenopause and menopause.
Understanding Perimenopause
Perimenopause is the transitional period before menopause when hormonal fluctuations can cause various physical and emotional symptoms. This phase can last anywhere from 4 to 14 years.
Your partner may experience mood swings, hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and other symptoms that can be challenging for both of you. Understanding what they're going through is the first step in providing meaningful support.

How You Can Help

Listen Without Fixing
Sometimes, your partner just needs to be heard. Resist the urge to immediately offer solutions and instead focus on empathetic listening.
Validate Their Experience
Acknowledge that their symptoms are real and significant. Avoid phrases like "it's just hormones" which can feel dismissive.
Be Patient
Mood swings and irritability are common symptoms of perimenopause. Try not to take emotional outbursts personally and give them space when needed.
Maintain Intimacy
Physical intimacy might change during this time. Be open to different forms of connection and prioritize emotional intimacy.
